Modder and YouTuber Peter Knetter turned an AMD microcomputer into a fully functional all-in-one SpongeBob computer with working eyes.
YouTuber Peter Kanter is no stranger to weird and wonderful PC and console mods. Content creators have already created fully functional Steam decks out of Lego and a GameCube controller out of cardboard.
This time the modders have brought to life everyone’s favorite sponge, which lives in a pineapple on the ocean floor. Knetter used the AMD Mini PC as the basis for development.
The resulting “SpongeBob All-In-One Computer” not only lets you play SpongeBob SquarePants games, but the “eyes” also function as dual-screen displays.
As you may have guessed, this PC wasn’t built from the ground up with a yellow PC case. Instead, Netter drew the Nickelodeon symbol with hot glue on a Styrofoam block, then shaped it with a hot knife and covered it with yellow foam.
Also added to the custom PC were Spongebob’s arms and teeth, which were fired from clay. Meanwhile, the PC speakers were placed where SpongeBob’s mouth would be.
However, the biggest advantage of this custom PC is its dual display. Instead of one display, Knetter used two 8-inch IPS screens with a resolution of 1024 x 768 to become SpongeBob’s eyes.
As seen in the latest YouTube video, Knetter even recreated SpongeBob’s adorable round cheeks and made room for the Geekom AE7 AMD Ryzen 9 Mini PC that would later power the entire build.
These are not the best combinations for playing SpongeBob SquarePants: Hydration Battle for Bikini Bottom. As you can see in the video, most of the actual footage of the game is edited out of the shape of SpongeBob’s large and memorable holes.
But it’s still impressive to see the back of his eye rendered through a finished, custom computer build.
The specs are pretty good and it features a Radeon 780M GPU, meaning it will have almost the same performance as the AM02 Ayaneo.
If you have a booming retro emulator on your system, that’s enough to run many games, albeit at a lower resolution. Enough for a full-fledged gaming system.
Mr. Netter went out of his way to make SpongeBob SquarePants PC, SquarePants and customized shoes.
