YouTube star Ludwig set to commentate Olympic Chessboxing

YouTube star Ludwig Ahgren and chess player Matt Thomas commentate in English on the chess-boxing competition at the 2024 Paris Olympics – and they couldn’t be more excited.

The 2024 Olympic Games are almost here, and a wonderful sport will be added to the program: chess-boxing.

As the name suggests, Chess Boxing combines chess and boxing, pitting opponents against each other on the board and in the box to create a team game unlike any other.

Popular YouTuber Ludwig Ahgren has made no secret of his passion for chessboxing, hosting his own event in 2022, Mogul Chessboxing, which drew the largest audience of 317,000 viewers.

Now he takes this passion to the highest level imaginable; At the 2024 Paris Olympics, he and another chess-boxing fan, Matt Thomas, will be the official commentators for the chess-boxing exhibition.

Both stars announced the news on Twitter/X and were clearly excited about the occasion. However, Ludwig noted that the game will not be broadcast live and is not currently an official Olympic event. Instead, they are just plays that will be uploaded to the YouTube channel after Ludwig returns from Paris.

Thomas wrote: “It was an honor to provide English commentary together with @LudwigAhgren at the @Paris2024 chess exhibition.” “Although it will not be broadcast live, we will release a documentary of the @ifc_officiel game and this historic event. Thank you to everyone who has supported us and this quirky little sport we love!”

The exhibition, financed by the Olympic Games, includes two fights: Kenza Magzali against Sne Vaikar and Carl Straugner against Valentin Marcel.

Although the concept of chessboxing has been around since the 70s, this is the first time the sport has made such a big splash in the world of international sports, and one of YouTube’s biggest stars will be responsible for a historic event. This will happen on the night of July 23, 2024.

Ludwig isn’t the only YouTuber making headlines ahead of the 2024 Olympics. Jake Paul is also traveling to Paris as an Official Olympic Partner to promote boxing and build enthusiasm for the sport of boxing at this year’s Olympics, while inspiring American amateurs about the importance of developing their skills in and out of the ring to improve. “We will train the best boxing talent.”
