YouTube has developed a new AI Channel Assistant feature to help hacked users recover their accounts.
YouTube has always had a problem with users being hacked. Some of the platform’s largest companies, such as LinusTechTips, have had their accounts compromised in recent years.
Now YouTube has launched a brand new AI-powered support assistant to help creators who are worried about their accounts being hacked or compromised.
Previously, the only way to recover a hacked account was to change the password or use the Google Account Recovery page.
Some celebrities on the site have used their large social media followings to contact YouTube directly for quicker solutions.
Currently only “authorized builders” are permitted
This new “bug fix,” announced by YouTube on August 21, 2024, provides more support in case the worst happens.
This new tool is hidden in YouTube Help and walks users through a series of questions about you and your channel.
According to Google’s support page for this new feature, these questions will help you ensure secure access to Google Sign in, which is important for taking back control of your channels.
Any changes made to the affected account by the hacker (including unauthorized video uploads, changes to your AdSense account, details, etc.) will then be reverted.
Currently this new tool is only available in English. In addition, only “authorized builders” can initially access the tool. However, Google has not clearly stated the required criteria.
It’s currently only available in English, but Google is working on making it available to all developers in the future.
All is not lost if you are not one of the lucky developers eligible for this new tool. Following Google’s recommendations, you can contact support by posting to @YouTube via X/Twitter.
