World’s first triple-folding phone could launch sooner than expected

Apple hasn’t released its first foldable iPhone yet, but Chinese rival Huawei is preparing to unveil a triple 10-inch phone.

While smartphone manufacturers strive to make foldable smartphones smaller and slimmer, Huawei is taking a completely different approach. The Chinese tech giant is preparing to launch the world’s first triple-core mobile phone.

According to a report on a Chinese website (via GSMArena), Richard Yu, CEO of Huawei’s consumer business unit, confirmed that the tri-folding phone will launch in September.

In response to questions from customers at Huawei’s EV delivery event, Yu did not provide any further details about the next phone. He confirmed important details about availability.

However, due to ongoing sanctions against the company, the phone will only be available in mainland China.

It’s not the first time this triple phone has been in the news. Aside from publishing various information and rumors confirming its existence, it has been released to the public on several occasions. Richard Yu was also seen using this device while traveling.

It is not clear whether this phone will be part of Huawei’s flagship Mate series or will be launched as a new series. This phone is expected to launch before the launch of the Mate 70 series.

However, the details are somewhat unclear. The device reportedly features a 10-inch display that folds into three equal halves. Ideally, this could result in a bulky device, similar to devices used in the early 2000s.

However, if the leaked images are to be believed, Huawei has managed to reduce the weight and thickness of this upcoming foldable phone. This makes it just slightly thicker than a typical tablet-style flip phone.

Huawei will likely use a new silicon-carbon battery in this phone instead of the usual lithium batteries found in most devices. These new batteries have higher energy density and are much thinner, but do not support the fast charging capabilities of traditional competitors.
