Twitch points out its many safety features after revealing the reason for Dr. Disrespect has revealed.
In June 2024, former Twitch employees finally broke their silence on Dr. Disrespect and claimed he was removed from the site because he sent explicit messages to minors.
Doc, whose real name is Guy Beam, later confirmed the claim. In a tweet, he admitted to using the Twitch Whisper feature to chat with minors in 2017, sending messages that “sometimes go too far in the wrong direction.”
However, an additional report disputed this, stating that when determining the user’s age, his messages were “graphic and sexually explicit in nature.”
TwitchCon Europe started a few days after it was announced that Dr. Disrespect had been broken and the employees were questioned directly about it.
According to EuroGamer, Twitch declined to deal with Dr. Dice spoke about the situation, but then mentioned the platform’s security tools.
“Harassment has no place on Twitch. We take enforcing our harassment and hateful behavior policies seriously,” the spokesperson said, pointing to tools like Automod and follower verification to keep users safe.
“These tools, in addition to ongoing 24/7 content monitoring, help prevent harassment on Twitch. We’ll continue to build on that.”
Pontus Skilson, vice president of global partnerships, made a similar point at TwitchCon, emphasizing the importance of keeping the platform secure.
“The safety of our streamers is my top priority. It’s important to us to run an inclusive site… The health of everyone on Twitch is definitely an important area for us, and we want to reassure moderators and streamers. Investing in security features “That’s what we provide and that’s what we’ll continue to do for the foreseeable future because it’s an ever-changing workflow.”
The reason for the ban on Dr. Disrespect was kept secret for a long time, but when the reason was revealed, the consequences were profound.
Doc was fired from his game studio and lost numerous brand contracts. Rogue Company is a game that hasn’t received an update since October 2023, only returning to remove streamer content.
Dr. Disrespect announced an extended break from streaming activities, but has not released a statement since his confession. He plans to return, but since his channel is not paid, it is unclear when or if he will return to YouTube.
Meanwhile, Cake has not ruled out allowing the disrespectful doctor to appear, with staff saying his precautionary ban was “premature”.
