A TikToker went viral after sharing a “genius” airport packing hack that could actually save travelers money.
Paying $40 or more to check an overstuffed bag at the airport can be a financial burden for many people. But this budget-friendly trick is said to work like a dream for travelers who tend to overpack but want to avoid overspending.
Content creator Faith Woodhall shares her travel tips in viral clip. Bring a second plastic bag with your belongings and buy your boots or bag duty-free at the airport so people think you bought them at the airport.
The video shows the UK-based travel and fashion TikToker with a friend, hiding his belongings in a carry-on bag at a duty-free store to avoid baggage fees.
“This is always a dream for the girls who pack too much… I never asked for a second bag,” Faith captioned the photo.
Many TikTok users received comments confirming that this hack works wonders. One person wrote: “I’ve been doing this for years. It works every time! I’ve never had a problem with Ryanair.”
We’ve been doing this for years and it works for easyJet and Ryanair. “I’ve been doing this for years and it works every time,” a third added, while another said: “This is genius.”
Some people weren’t happy with the way TikTokers “exposed” the hack. One viewer wrote: “Please don’t tell our secrets like this. Another added: “Don’t tell people. Ruin it for the people who have been doing it for years.”
This is just one of the tricks travelers use to save money. However, these cost-cutting strategies can sometimes go horribly wrong.
Earlier this year, a man was banned from flying after he tried to hack a viral package in which he stuffed his clothes into a pillowcase and zipped it up to hide it.
