Today, Nothing has launched the first public beta of Nothing OS 3.0, available for the Nothing Phone (2a). This new software is based on Android 15, and the finalized version is expected to be released in December.
What’s particularly interesting is that the Phone (2a), neither the most high-end nor the latest device from Nothing, is the first to receive this beta. Other models, including the Nothing Phone (2), Phone (1), Phone (2a) Plus, and CMF Phone 1, will have to wait for their turn. The Phone (2) is set to get the beta next month, while the other models are scheduled for December. This also means that the final release of Nothing OS 3.0 will come to the Phone (2a) first, followed by the Phone (2), and then the rest of the lineup.
According to Nothing, Nothing OS 3.0 is “the software we’ve always wanted to make” and introduces several new features, including:
- Lock screen customization page
- Upgraded clock faces
- Expanded widget space on the lock screen
- An AI-powered Smart Drawer that automatically categorizes apps
- Redesigned Quick Settings
- An improved widget library design
- Updated visuals in the Settings menu
- Faster camera launch speed and improved HDR scene processing
- Optimized portrait effects and better low-light camera performance
- A movable and resizable multitasking pop-up view
- Ability to enter pop-up view by swiping down on notifications
- Auto-archive feature to free up storage space without deleting apps or data
- Partial screen sharing
- An updated setup wizard
- Predictive back animations
- A new fingerprint unlocking animation
How to Access the Beta
If you’re keen to try the open beta on your Nothing Phone (2a), head to the source link where detailed instructions are available. The process involves downloading and installing an APK that will allow the beta version to appear in your phone’s Settings, after which you can choose to install it.
