MW2 H2M creators reveal why Activision shut down CoD mod

The creators of the MW2 H2M mod have explained why Activision canceled the Modern Warfare Remastered mod, citing a possible drop in Black Ops 6 sales.

Modern Warfare Remastered received a lot of attention last week with the H2M mod, which attempted to incorporate MW2 multiplayer content into the seven-year-old remaster.

However, all promotion of the mod led to protests against Activision as the developers were shut down the day before release.

A few days after the mod was shut down, its creator explained what happened to H2M and explained the reasons for shutting down the mod.

H2M Mod founder Watchful Wolf has made a video discussing Activision’s ability to hinder sales of the upcoming Black Ops 6.

“Due to the popularity of H2M and the proximity of Black Ops 6, beta and marketing, they don’t want H2M to affect potential sales of Black Ops 6,” Watchful Wolf said.

It also touched on many of the ideas that Activision proposed in Black Ops 3 as the game was more mod-friendly, though Watchful Wolf stated that they were willing to do something similar regardless of which part of CoD they were working on. Black applications 6.

Watchful Wolf reported that Activision’s cancellation letter arrived a few hours before H2M was scheduled to be released, the servers were already up and running, and the team was providing the latest updates for the mod.

As for the H2M development team’s future plans, he says that they and the Sm2 mod team will work together to develop their own first-person shooter using the skills they’ve been working on on the mod.

Prior to H2M’s demise, Sm2 was another mod that was canceled by Activision in May 2023 when development ceased.
