According to a new report, Meta plans to launch two versions of its Quest 4 VR headset in 2026.
When it comes to VR headsets, all eyes are on the upcoming Meta Quest 3. However, it seems that Meta is still looking to the future and plans are underway for two versions of MetaQuest 4.
Wayne Ma and Kalley Huang from The Information report on Quest 4. These two are well-known industry insiders who have provided in-depth information about Quest headsets in the past.
Ma and Huang suggested that two versions of Quest 4 are planned, both scheduled for release in 2026. The standard and premium models were marked with the codes Pismo Low and Pismo High, respectively.
Following this launch, Meta is set to ship a new Quest headset codenamed La Jolla. This device has been rumored for a while and is believed to be the Quest Pro 2.
Specifications for both Quest 4 models were not included in the report. No definitive information has been released about the Quest Pro 2 either.
All we know about the Quest Pro 2 so far is that it will likely retain the Quest Pro’s battery-backed design and feature an Avatar codec. This meta-project has been in the works for some time and offers high-resolution photorealistic avatars that can be controlled in real time.
The code for these codec avatars has been found in publicly available firmware, suggesting that they are under active development.
At this early point in the product cycle, little is known about what to expect from a potential Quest 4 headset. Perhaps after the release of Quest 3S we will find out more about its specifications and features.
