iPhone 16 camera specs leak & it’s bad news for non-pro users

A new report has revealed the camera specifications of the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro. The iPhone Pro is due for an upgrade, but if reports are true, other models may not be so lucky.

Apple Insider has managed to reveal the camera specifications of all four iPhones that are rumored to be released in September. The publication largely confirms what is already known, but also reveals some details that have not previously been publicly disclosed.

Starting with the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, reports confirm that both models will retain the dual camera setup on the back as seen in the leaked model. The main wide-angle camera offers 1x and 2x zoom and the secondary ultra-wide-angle camera offers 0.5x zoom.

The 48-megapixel main camera with f/1.6 aperture and 2x telephoto capability maintains optical quality. However, the ultra-wide-angle camera will reportedly be upgraded to a faster f/2.2 aperture, an improvement over the previous f/2.4. This upgrade should give you better photos in low light.

Another change on non-Pro iPhones is support for macro photography, which is a first on these models.

The real changes happen with the iPhone Pro

Apple Insider claimed that major changes are coming to the iPhone 16 Pro and 16 Pro Max. The primary sensor remains the same and the triple camera layout remains.

According to the report, this camera will be equipped with a 48-megapixel sensor with an aperture of f/1.78 and will also be able to take 12-megapixel telephoto photos with double optical quality, where the pixel count will be 1.22 µm.

This year, the iPhone 16 Pro will have a 5x telephoto lens instead of a 3x lens. Previously, this lens was exclusive to Pro Max. Both phones have a 12-megapixel sensor and a telephoto lens with an f/2.8 aperture.

The most significant change is the ultra-wide-angle lens, which is said to be expanding from a 12-megapixel sensor to a 48-megapixel camera. Additionally, this camera uses the same pixel binning technology as the original camera.

Apple Insider predicts that the Pro iPhones will be able to capture 48MP ProRAW photos with this improved lens. The two Pro models may also support 3K video recording at 120 frames per second with Dolby Vision. Therefore. If you’re into cameras and want the best camera possible, maybe it’s time to start saving.
