Elon Musk hopes the Neuralink chip will give the world superpowers

Elon Musk and other NeuraLink executives believe the second patient will receive the chip within a few weeks.

Neuralink founder and X (formerly Twitter) influencer Elon Musk is already preparing to implant another human patient, making him the second person in the world to receive a Neuralink chip.

In a June 10 live stream on Platform X, Musk and the rest of the Neuralink team said they hope to unveil the next chip “within a week.”

According to the stream, which is available in full version on the official NeuraLink website.

In January 2024, Noland Arbach was the first person to receive a Neuralink chip. Since then, Arbach, paralyzed from the shoulders down, has been able to win online chess games.

The 29-year-old managed to stream Civilization VI for several hours using the Neuralink chip, although the chip only worked on “15% of its channels”. However, things did not always go smoothly.

A few weeks after Arbach received the chip at Barrow Neurological Institute in Phoenix, Arizona, the company reported in a blog post that several fibers from the chip had come out of his brain.

This resulted in fewer effective electrodes, meaning less data could be transmitted. Neuralink solved the problem by making the chip more sensitive to neural signals.
